Chief minister feels island will gain more self determination as global relationships mature

Chief Minister Lyndon TrottGUERNSEY looks set to take greater steps towards determining its own direction in Europe and internationally, according to the Chief Minister.

Lyndon Trott (pictured) said the island’s relationship with the UK was much less paternal than it used to be.

The island was now seen as having matured significantly regarding international relations.

It has increasingly been negotiating agreements with other nations and letters of entrustment can enable some, within certain confines, to take place.

These letters are issued by the UK and allow, for example, Guernsey to sign various tax information exchange agreements.
