THE first inter-insular of the 2010-11 badminton season saw a strong island second team perform really well to retain the RSL Shield by a convincing 27-3 margin at the Rohais Hall.

The Guernsey team looked a strong outfit with returning ex-first team players Kevin Le Moigne, Andy Orme and Stuart Hardy ably supported by Danny Kampmann, Chris Thoume who recently returned from university, and debutant top junior Glenn Le Tissier.

The women also promised to be strong with county players Vicky Naylor, Renee Stuart, Anika Johnson, Emily Trebert, Jane Torode and Fran Babbe included.

However, Jersey were also strengthened by 24-year-old ex-Danish Under-19 champion Ulrik Nielson, who looked a very classy act.
