‘No rush on pensions, let’s wait for Hutton’
Wednesday 27th October 2010, 1:00PM BST.
GUERNSEY should not rush into a decision on public sector pensions just because Jersey will shortly debate whether to scrap its scheme, the chairman of the Pensions Consultative Committee has said.
Deputy Allister Langlois, pictured, said any decision on Guernsey’s final salary pension scheme should be based on facts and information, not assumption and emotion.
Jersey Treasury minister Philip Ozouf announced last week that its Council of Ministers was recommending the closure of its final salary pension scheme for States employees.
The issue will form part of the Budget debate due to take place in December.
Deputy Langlois said Guernsey would wait to study the final findings of Lord Hutton’s report into UK public sector pensions before deciding if any changes were necessary.

Weird, like waiting for some one else’s comments on some one else’s purse.
We are talking about the Guernsey money pit for pensions, no one else’s pension purse.
So the review should be able to go ahead now to make decesions on what can be sustained out of Guernsey’s purse for pensions.
Or is it, being a cynic, that those who would do the review are at about retirement age, so a delay is in their potential benefit!
