GUERNSEY’S wavesailers held on to the title as Channel Island champions as they completed a clean sweep at the Highland Spring CI windsurfing championships that were run in Jersey over the weekend.

The event format was wavesailing as opposed to the more normal racing.

Wavesailing involves riding waves when coming in towards the beach, in much the same way as surfing, but also with the addition of wave jumping on the way out where the sailors use the board speed and wave as a ramp to jump as high as possible into the air.

The competitors are judged on style and control with points awarded for complexity of aerial manoeuvres and wave surfing skills.
