Guernsey and Jersey could share a joint financial watchdog
Thursday 28th October 2010, 2:29PM BST.
GUERNSEY and Jersey have agreed to work together to look into setting up a financial ombudsman for the Channel Islands.
Work on consultation on the creation of an ombudsman, an independent body to settle complaints between consumers and financial services businesses, will start later this year.
The discussions will be a joint project between Guernsey’s Commerce and Employment Department and the Economic Development Department in Jersey. The two islands have also agreed to undertake a joint feasibility study into the creation of a Channel Islands Aircraft Register.
Commerce and Employment minister Carla McNulty Bauer (pictured) said the regular meetings between Guernsey and Jersey meant the two islands were able to find more areas to work together and save money.
