Ward closure will not mean cross-infection risk increase

HEALTH and Social Services has moved to reassure islanders about infection control at the hospital following concerns surrounding the temporary closure of Victoria Wing.
It was responding to claims from a hospital worker that the four-month closure of the private wing due to staff shortages could increase the risk of infection spreading.
Patients with different conditions, warned the worker, could end up sharing the same ward.
But a department spokes-man said regardless of the closure, patients were admitted to all areas with a variety of illnesses unless particular methods were required.
