‘We should stop and pay homage to the fallen’

Eric Le QuesneIT IS important for islanders to buy poppies and support the Royal British Legion, said island branch president Eric Le Quesne at the launch of its poppy appeal yesterday.

The dedication of the Field of Remembrance took place at 1pm at the War Memorial at the top of Smith Street, led by the Dean, the Very Rev. Canon Paul Mellor. Bailiff Sir Geoffrey Rowland and Lady Rowland were the first to place their poppies, followed by local veterans.

Mr Le Quesne (pictured) explained why it was so important to help keep the tradition going strong.

‘We are remembering those who have laid down their lives for their country,’ he said.
