‘Developers would be like vultures’

Janine Le SauvagePOTENTIAL options for future development in Guernsey were picked apart in the States yesterday.

Members were discussing a report presented by the Strategic Land Planning Group which included three broad options for future development.

The group is reviewing the Strategic Land Use Plan, which defines what areas can be developed, because it is based on a land-use strategy that was introduced 20 years ago.

The three options within the paper were developed following the Guernsey Tomorrow consultation, which gathered islanders’ views on the sort of place they wanted the island to be.

Despite that effort, Deputy Janine Le Sauvage (pictured) said she was disappointed with the report. She said that with option two, which would increase the area being developed, the developers would move in like vultures.

Developers are vultures! What else?. No wonder the poor old Guernseyman cannot build on his own little plot. This was n,t happening in the Forties and Fifties, when this liitle Island was still a paradise, and most of us had a chance to build and own our own place.

Why are there only three options to choose from? Why does development need to happen at all? There is only so much land. Save it as long as possible. Developers only see the money they can make! You can’t go backwards; UNdevelopment is not an option
