Morale low among local nurses, says their union rep

Mary Avert, RCNLOCAL nurses are demoralised because they don’t get access to the same benefits as non-local employees, the Guernsey representative of the Royal College of Nursing has stated.

Mary Avery (pictured) said the union was concerned that some local nurses currently working on Victoria Wing, which is soon to close temporarily, would not want to move to other wards and would resign.

The ward is shutting for four months due to staff shortages and all the nurses will be reassigned. However, she acknowledged that the decision had been difficult and said the union understood the reasons behind the move.

‘The decision to shut Victoria Wing was not an easy one but, as the private wing, it does take all specialties.’
