Islands’ benchmarking service could cut cost of consultants

Chris BrockANSWERS to some of the island’s most pressing issues could be found in a new benchmarking research service, devised by a local company.

Research company Island Analysis has spent the last three years gathering qualitative and quantitative information from more than 80 islands around the world on common external threats and similar internal problems with which small jurisdictions have to contend.

Topics covered in the 31 briefing papers which Island Analysis intends to start sending out to clients from the end of this month to June next year, include research on how different islands and jurisdictions have tackled economic, social and environmental issues, as well as questions surrounding government finance.

Island Analysis chief executive Chris Brock (pictured) said he hoped the States of Guernsey would be interested in signing up to the best practice benchmarking service, but that the local government was not the company’s only intended target as the company had developed the research so it could be used by the authorities and private sector businesses of any small island or jurisdiction.
