TORONTO conquered, Heather Watson arrived in Phoenix yesterday for another ITF tournament and as the new British No. 3.

Watson’s victory at the Tevlin Challenger event has propelled her to No. 176 in the world rankings, a rise of 35 places.

And the 70 extra ranking points were sufficient to place the 18-year-old above the much-heralded Laura Robson and Kate O’Brien in the British rankings.

In British terms, Watson now has only world no. 55 Elena Baltacha and No. 123 Anna Keathavong ahead of her, the latter next on the Guernsey player’s radar as she aims to pick up more points at this week’s $75,000 Goldwater Classic in Phoenix.
