Guernsey has potential, says cleantech expert

Peter MillerGUERNSEY’S clean energy and technology resources have great potential, according to a cleantech expert who visited the island.

Steve Lang (pictured), a partner and head of Ernst & Young’s UK and Ireland cleantech practice, told a business audience that clean energy and technology represented one of the world’s most important investment areas over the next decade and beyond.

On the supply side, clean technologies include alternative energy sources such as biofuels, solar, wind, geothermal, tidal and hydro.

On the demand side, technologies are focused on managing and storing energy efficiently such as smart grids, enabling predictive rather than reactive power management, as well as controlling emissions.

    I think he is right but there is almost no chance that the government of guernsey will have the means, capacity or ability to facilitate and make the most of this opportunity.
