THOUSANDS of islanders paused for two minutes yesterday to remember and pay tribute to those who have died in war.
Businesses, shops, schools and ex-servicemen were among those who took time out to mark the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – the precise anniversary of the end of the First World War.
As part of the Armistice Day commemorations, Royal British Legion Guernsey branch president, retired Major Eric Le Quesne, fired the noonday gun at Castle Cornet alongside the castle keepers.
Around 20 ex-servicemen, including Lt-Governor Sir Fabian Malbon, gathered at the castle to observe the silence.
