HUNDREDS of islanders filled the top of Smith Street yesterday to pay their respect to those who have fallen in conflicts around the world.
The Remembrance Sunday parade gathered at the Arsenal at 10.20am and was led by the Guernsey Concert Brass to the war memorial, and included a Sea Cadet unit, standard bearers from local organisations and war veterans.
Five minutes before the Act of Remembrance the Lt-Governor, Sir Fabian Malbon, and Bailiff Sir Geoffrey Rowland took up their positions in front of the memorial. Representatives from 201 (Guernsey’s Own) Squadron and HMS Daring joined them.
The rain did not stop islanders surrounding the memorial and they listened to bugler Colin Solway sound the Last Post prior to two minutes silence from 11am, which began and ended with the firing of the Castle Cornet cannon.
