GUERNSEY were dumped out of the FA County Youth Cup on Saturday against a clinical Wiltshire side.
At a rain-soaked St Sampson’s High School which was called upon when the Track was deemed unfit for use, Paul Ockleford’s side were quite simply second-best for the majority of the game and can have no complaints about the score line, which could have been worse.
Yes, Wiltshire were a strong side, particularly their strike partnership of Ottis Young and John Rees, but they were helped by the time and space they were given courtesy of the home side’s surprisingly open 4-3-3 formation.
Indeed, when that switched back to a more traditional 4-4-2 in the second period, Guernsey were a match for their opponents, despite suffering the injustice of a more-than-questionable sending off, especially considering that Wiltshire were let off the hook at the other end in even more questionable circumstances.
