Chainey’s time is up as Bels coach
Tuesday 16th November 2010, 2:30PM GMT.
LEIGHTON CHAINEY has stepped down as coach from league champions Bels.
The 34-year-old (pictured), who had been in the job since the beginning of this season, announced his decision to the Bels committee on Sunday, with former coach Ian Champion taking over the reins for the foreseeable future.
Chainey explained his decision yesterday.
‘Having spoken with the committee I have decided to step down,’ he said.
‘I spoke with the board on Sunday and it is my decision to step down for a variety of reasons. I didn’t feel that I could be as committed to the first team job as I would have liked to be. I feel that before the season really starts to get going, this is the best time to leave Bels.’
