ONCE again the St Pierre Park Guernsey Volleyball Open Tournament produced some fantastic matches at Beau Sejour leading to Championship-winning performances by Reading Devils, Sussex Dolphins and Anglesey, in the women’s, mixed and men’s competition respectively.

However, local female teams Nashcopy, who were narrowly beaten in their final, and MEC who reached the last four were not easily defeated, providing tough opposition for the visitors.

Although the teams were not as well represented this season, mainly due to the weekend having to be played a week later for accommodation and venue reasons, the annual tournament still attracted more than one hundred visitors from both the UK and Jersey.

One of the reasons to sustain this tournament is for local players and teams to play against stronger opposition throughout the weekend and this proved to be the case, particularly in the women’s tournament.
