Marketing team ready to meet tourism challenges of 2011

ATTRACTING visitors to Guernsey next year will be challenging but the island’s promotion team is well placed to do that, according to the director of marketing and tourism.
Chris Elliott was speaking to an audience at a Chamber of Commerce lunch.
He outlined how important the industry, which he estimated contributed about £80m. a year to the economy, was to Guernsey and the challenged it faced due to the UK’s financial situation.
Around 85% of visitors to Guernsey arrive from there, with a typical stay being nearly five days long.
Mr Elliott (pictured) painted a worrying picture of the spending cuts and predicted job losses in the UK, and how that could impact on people’s spending power to purchase holidays.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
May be one suggestion would be reducing the cost of travel to and from Guernsey and working with all involved within the tourism industry within the island too to promote what you have to offer. I think that the cost of travel is the main reason why people go else where. We come as a family every year as the beaches are great for the children, a vast choice of food and a much more relaxing way of life and we stay for 7 nights at a time.

I would advise keeping shum on the cost of medical treatment to visiting UK tourists…

I have to agree with that, its not cheap to come over, we have been coming twice a year and it does cost a fortune, regardless as to whether you fly or use the ferry.
But more than this i don’t recall ever seeing any advertising for Gsy on tv or in the press here unlike for Jsy.
As i have mentioned in another link we are moving over, and nobody at work seems to have even heard of Gsy!
