AT THE UK Laser Inland Championship at Grafham Water, Guernsey Yacht Club junior Johanna Asplund pulled together an impressive performance to finish third overall and first girl in the 60-strong fleet.

She was up against the top Laser 4.7 sailors from across Britain as well as strong sailors from Belgium, Bulgaria, Ireland and Sweden.

‘It was a good weekend. I am pleased with my sailing and I can see things are going in the right direction,’ said Asplund, who now has four months in the Laser behind her since moving on from the Optimist class this summer.

The first day offered light to mid-range conditions and with an excellent series comprising a first, a second and a 12th in the three races Asplund held on to top spot on the leader board over night.
