Bailiff pays tribute to champion of people with a disability
Thursday 18th November 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
TRIBUTE has been paid by the Bailiff to the founder of a local disability charity who died yesterday.
Dave Purdy (pictured), who would have been 62 at the end of the year, was probably best known for being at the forefront of a campaign that created the Guernsey Cheshire Home, where he was a popular resident.
He founded the Guernsey Association of Disabled People, which he chaired for 16 years.
Sir Geoffrey Rowland has been friends with Mr Purdy since they were teenagers and recalled when Mr Purdy injured himself while bathing in Herm, which resulted in him being wheelchair-bound.

A very, very sad loss for Dave’s family, and for the island of Guernsey. Dave has worked tirelessly to campaign for the rights of Disabled People and he will be sorely missed.
