LOWLANDS residents have some concerns about plans to convert a field into five light industrial units.

The Channel Islands Co-operative Society has been given permission for the development following publicity about the lack of land available for small businesses dubbed as ‘Freds in the Shed’.

No details about tenants are yet available and some residents fear factors such as noise could become a problem. But the Co-op said it will do its best to be a good neighbour.

Sandie Clarke, 58, who lives in a bungalow in Lowlands Road, said she was concerned about the possible noise, although it will all depend on what businesses go in there.

Ask any Doctor or medical clinic and you will be advised that noise – and especially the lack of peace, quiet, and solitude in one’s life – is the cause of much of todays sickness amongst people. As such, it is clear – or rather common sense – that at no time, and regardless of whether the ‘units’ are ‘light’ or ‘heavy’( a statement that is usually BS once the buildings are up and running anyway) be built alongside of, or within, a residential area. I’d bet a pound that no states member will be living alongside of this industrial ‘facility’ either. Indeed, the ‘CO-OP’ should be ashamed of themselves for bringing this forthcoming noise and pollution into a residential area, and especially into a piece of land that should be growing healthy organic vegetables and fruit to serve to the islands population. Shame on the Co-OP.

Expat80 on this occasion I agree with you. I find it an essential to get away and have some times of solitude.

I am especially amazed how some people never seem to spend a minute without some kind of noise – whether from the iPod or the TV.

I do wonder whether they are afraid what they will hear if they turn the noise off…..
