Alderney strikes a royal engagement first with £5 coin

Prince William and Kate Middleton, whose engagement is to be commemorated by an Alderney £5 coin.

AN ALDERNEY £5 piece is to be the first coin to commemorate a Royal engagement.

The Royal Mint has said it will produce the collector’s coin that will be officially issued to mark the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The couple announced their engagement earlier this week and the coin will go on sale before the wedding, the date of which is expected to be announced in the next few days.

It will not be legal tender in the UK, however.
