‘Don’t kill us off, give us the tourism brief’

TOURISM would sit more comfortably within Culture and Leisure’s mandate than it does in Commerce and Employment’s, its minister has said.

The claim from Culture and Leisure minister Mike O’Hara, pictured, was in response to the idea that his department should be dissolved.

Deputy Sam Maindonald made the suggestion earlier this year on a BBC Guernsey phone-in.

She said that if the States was really serious about saving money Culture and Leisure could be scrapped.

But last week its minister said he still did not view that as something that was ever likely to happen or work.
