Clubs are resigned to running leagues

A FEELING of resignation was all-pervasive among the GFA’s senior clubs following news that they could face running their own competitions from next season.

On Monday, club delegates learned that the English FA recommend the introduction of a league management committee to run most open-age football in the island, as well as new voting rights to give the GFA more power.

The day after senior club figures reacted on similar lines.

St Martin’s Henry Davey, North’s Garry Cortez, Brian Horsepool of Rovers and Mike Bachelet of Sylvans, who were all present at the GFA headquarters at the Corbet Field, see the introduction of a self-serving league committee as now very likely.
