Red faces around chamber over Forest douzaine reps’ faux pas

CONFUSION over the identity of the Forest Douzaine’s representative at Wednesday’s sitting of the States of Election was the result of a double error, it emerged yesterday.
Francis Paul (pictured) called ‘present’ when Dave Gorvel’s name was read out during the roll call to vote for a new jurat. Mr Paul said he had attended the meeting in full belief that his name had been put forward to represent the parish.
When HM Greffier had called ‘Representative of the Forest,’ Mr Paul said he had been too quick off the mark and had called ‘Present’ while Mr Gorvel’s name was being read and he had not heard it.
But Mr Gorvel said the mistake firmly rested with him and that Mr Paul had unfortunately had to pay for it in the chamber.
