Bomb squad rushes to Jersey’s aid – by boat

GUERNSEY’S specialist bomb unit dashed to Jersey yesterday after a suspicious package led to hundreds being evacuated in St Helier.

The alert occurred just after 9am in the centre of Town when the package was delivered to the offices of advocates Lempriere Whittaker Renouf above Mothercare in Rutland House, Charing Cross.

Jersey’s own bomb expert, who works with the police but is not directly employed by them, was in the UK so three specialist disposal officers from Guernsey were sent over to make the device safe.

But instead of travelling by air the team decided to take the one-hour Condor service to the island.

A spokesman for the Guernsey unit said that the ferry was the best way to get there. ‘We weighed up the options and decided because we had equipment and there was a scheduled Condor service about to leave, that that would be the most convenient way of getting there,’ he said.

I’m more curious as to why Guernsey even -needs- a specialist bomb team. We must move money for every terrorist organisation in the world. Maybe they are afraid the Torteval Separatist Alliance have re-formed?

Oh and as for the need for a bomb team, my Uncle regularly still finds unexploded bombs in his fields in the upper parishes.

Another dig from the GP. I believe the bomb squad has a vehicle and trailer with their equipment on…like to see them fit that on a tris-lander rather than a ferry.

    Another poorly written article

You seem to forget we were inhabited by the Germans who left THOUSANDS of unexploded ordnance on the island. Quite how you forgot that I will never know. People never cease to amaze me.
