ELENA JOHNSON has claimed a bronze medal at the British Universities Individual Championships.
In her first tournament since the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the Sarnian was able to represent Birmingham University as she is currently doing a part-time masters degree in teaching studies.
She partnered GB player Alyssa Lim in the women’s doubles and they won through four rounds to reach the quarter-finals, in which they had a tough match against former junior internationals and 5/8 seeds Helena Lewczinska and Nicki Chan-Lam of Manchester University.
‘In the previous round we had a fairly comfortable win against a Bulgarian international and her partner from Strathclyde University,’ Johnson said.
