‘Poor will breed’ scandal Tory to keep his seat on GFSC
Saturday 27th November 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
THE former MP who said cuts to UK child benefits would encourage the poor to ‘breed’ will keep his place on the board of Guernsey’s finance industry regulator.
Conservative Party member Howard Flight’s remarks this week caused a storm of controversy and he was forced to apologise.
Mr Flight (pictured) is a commissioner on the board of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission but chairman Advocate Peter Harwood said the almost universal condemnation would not affect Mr Flight’s position.
‘It would only be relevant to us if it related to the financial services sector. I have no reason to doubt the contribution he makes.’

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Poor man, what he said is absolutely correct. People on benefits can afford another child as the tax payer will pay for them. People in work will think twice because of the cost of bringing up a child on their own WITHOUT all the financial support you get from being on benefits.

heh heh heh. one after another, the tories show they will never, ever change their spots. and you wonder why the students marching on westminster were chanting ‘tory scum! tory scum!’

son of a blah – So you think that what he said was incorrect or you just don’t like that he said it?
One could argue that Labour is also consistent in it’s mismanagement of the UK economy. Maybe you can correct me but I can’t recall a time when they left it in a better state than when they found it?
As for the students chanting “Tory Scum” I suspect the vast numbers of them will be Tory voting doctors, lawyers, accountants, management consultants in years to come.

I did see a lot of student scum smashing things up and some trying to assault the police.

Son of Blah:
Thank god they will never change their spots. Sadly, those on benefits may never either. He was quite right – while the workers are out propping up society the lazy sit at home in their free houses smoking cigarettes paid for by those at work.
The welfare state is a failure in my book, I can only hope the Tories get rid of it.

Mr Flight may not have been wise in his choice of words but Truth Man is correct, he was quite right in what he was trying to say.

truth man – if you get rid of the welfare state, the people will rise up and take what is rightfully theirs. that’s the reason the ruling class agreed to it being put there in the first place – so that they could hang on to all their stuff and keep at bay those they milk with a few tossed crumbs. nothing’s changed.
Son of Blah:
Oh right, so what is ‘rightfully theirs’?
As far as I am concerned those who earn something have a right to it. The welfare state promotes getting something for free. Are you suggesting those who want something for nothing have a right to steal it if it is not given to them?
Truth Man – The principle of the welfare state is sound: a mechanism to provide those in legitimate need with access to life’s essentials such as food, clothing and shelter.
There will always be arguments of what defines legitimate need; the level of support that is provided and what should be expected of those in receipt of benefits.
I think the majority would agree that a sweeping review of welfare is urgently required, but scrapping the welfare state totally will take us back to the dark ages.

Paul Le P:
My comment “I only hope the Tories get rid of it” was made having just heard of another family milking the taxpayer for all they can whilst doing nothing to earn. Now I’ve calmed down again I totally agree that to scrap it all-together would be wrong.
