AN ANTI-ICING agent was sprayed on the runway last night to reduce the chance of flight disruption today.

Up to 500 passengers were delayed yesterday when flying was unable to start until shortly before 11.30am.

The knock-on effect meant that flights were about held up by about three hours on average.

Airport director Colin Le Ray said the anti-icing agent would not stop ice forming, but it would stop it from binding with the surface, making it easier to clear.
