Tsunami charity loses funds to thieves

Sarah GriffithPEOPLE who walked out without paying for goods have marred a local charity fund-raiser.

More than £3,400 was raised for Bridge 2 Sri Lanka at the Handbags 2 Heels fund-raiser on Sunday.

But charity founder and event organiser Sarah Griffith (pictured) said that thieves deprived her charity of hundreds of pounds – and it is not the only one to have lost out.

‘We put paper chains around the handles of the bags and different colours indicated different prices, but one of the volunteers said someone was tearing them off, putting the bags on their arms and walking out,’ said Ms Griffith.

‘I think it’s absolutely despicable and shows a really unpleasant side of our society.’
