The gorse on the northern stretch of public land was cleared last month using a flail leaving the area, some said, like a bombsite.
There were worries the work would have longer-term effects. L’Ancresse is rich in archaeology.
States archaeology officer Philip de Jersey (pictured) said he was keeping a close eye on the work.

I met another dog walker at L’Ancresse at the end of November and we got talking about a nearby dolmen
I wondered aloud how old it was and my new friend said it was 2,500 years and 3 months old
I asked him how he could possibly be so accurate and he replied that he had met Dr de Jersey on the common in late August and he had said that the dolmen was 2,500 years old
