Harbour fees hike would hit ferry fares
Monday 13th December 2010, 1:00PM GMT.
CUSTOMERS could be forced to bear the brunt of a 3.5% harbour charge increase if Public Services’ proposal is accepted, Condor’s managing director has said.
Simon Edsall said the ferry company would have to wait and see if the department would go ahead with the rise as the proposal was out for consultation.
But if the 3.5% increase was accepted passengers could be forced to pay higher fares.
‘Obviously this rise would be above the level of inflation so it’s a direct cost we would have to bear,’ he said.

Yes, and it would be Guernsey to UK fares that would be hiked…not the other way around !!!
The Guern will get pumped again because how else will we leave with a car ?

We need more competition over here to drive down prices.

Damo,
Not just the Guernsey – UK,the fare for a car and two from St Malo – Guernsey return has already gone from 180 in 2010 to 250 Pounds in 2011,an incredible increasee of 70 pounds. And that for an unreliable service!!!!

The states seem to be putting up charges on every thing what are they doing with the money i know they have to pay off there mistakes they have made.i think people should question what is going on and who is making decisions like tax on fuel for cars i see they want to put that up again when will it end this is not the island i use to remember.

2 Adults + 1 Car + 1 infant under 3 = £360 return from UK > Guernsey. Damo, I am a Guern living in UK and we pay exactly the same for longer duration journeys. And again – for an unreliable service, with rubbish journey times. One thing I would say is Condor have improved Monday and Friday which I am pleased about.

Condor seem to have already responded to the increase charges. They have reduced the number of next years sailings each day/week so that harbour charges will be less. Also journey times have been increased so presumably they will not be late so often! Sailings to and from Poole are so few in comparison that one presumes that this is the pre courser to withdrawing from this route completely the following year, thus reducing even further their operating costs. If they keep their present fleet, at least they will have for the majority of the time, as a spare unit to cover the frequent breakdowns.

God forbid the ferry price goes up. Any higher and i’ll have to think of some sort of way to cross the water without using a boat. Some sort of airborne vehicle. This is hard…
