GIRLS and young women are becoming a lot less active as they get older, a survey has revealed.
The results of the research, the Guernsey Young People’s Survey 2010, were released yesterday.
This showed that the number of 16- and 17-year-old girls who said they enjoyed physical activity was almost half of the number of 10- and 11-year-olds.
Just 53% of 16- and 17-year-old girls said they exercised three times or more for more than 30 minutes compared to 81% of 10- and 11-year-olds.
But the number of boys exercising remained constant.

The first thing to do is look at footwear in schools. Boys dont have much change when it comes to footwear from primary through to secondary so are just as likely to run around during lunch or outdoor time whereas girls have a huge change in footwear from primary through to secondary. I see girls everyday from the Ladies College struggling to even walk in high heeled shoes everyday. The wearing of these shoes conditions girls to move as little as possible. It not only looks ridiculous and makes the school look cheap but most importantly it is incredibly bad for the health of the children. Allowing the girls to wear these shoes encourages them to sit around and do as little exercise as possible, it is no wonder that this translates into their out of school life too.

Down to shoes …….what a ridiculous assumption they are not permenantly fixed to their feet they do come off,
they get most of their excercise at weekends etc, house partys, nightclubs, walking through town pub to pub….lol
