Age Concern Bailiwick of Guernsey vice-chairman Roy Trustum says the ‘silly’ decision to close these toilets will particularly affect the elderly, many of whom use the area. (Picture by Tom Tardif, 1069960)
CLOSING the Castle Emplacement toilets will impact particularly badly on the elderly, according to Age Concern Bailiwick of Guernsey’s vice-chairman.
Roy Trustum said the move was a silly one and the Town needed more public toilets, not fewer.
‘Pensioners get more water problems than the younger generation, particularly in cold weather,’ he said.
‘People can’t just walk into a cafe and say “I want to use your toilet” and a lot of pensioners can’t afford to pay £1.50 or £2 for a cup of coffee so they can. I know toilets get damaged, but people need them.’

In the South of France, especially in the foothills of Mount Ventoux amongst the small villages where we live, toilets are lamentably few..discretion behind a bush is often the only means of relief…however you cannot expect elderly ladies, or men, to hide behind land moored boats at the Castle Emplacement…’tis just a silly, muddled, badly thought through decision…taking away a public loo has to be “Bad Idea Of The Year” award for someone!!!

There’s a large pond next to these toilets, maybe the States want us to urinate there instead?

How on earth can we justify a decision to close public toilets for whatever period of time?
When are politicians going to listen to the electorate, we need public toilets – its a basic requirement for any civilised society.
What is the point of asking the electorate of ways of saving money, if you are not going to listen to what they are saying.
Get the basics right in Guernsey first and foremost, make savings in off-island projects/consultants that are constantly haemorrhaging taxpayers money with little or no tangible results.

Isn’t there some sort of either law, or direction that is there for adequate facilities for the use of persons as Toilets.
Well there is no doubt any longer that the sooner this lot is removed from office the better.

I have a cunning plan , it will help to replace the toilets and help with our recycling figures …
Leave cardboard boxes / empty bottles in place of the proposed closed toilets . have pre-paid postage stickers available on a roll, similar to toilet paper, and post the filled objects to the people responsible for the proposed closed facilities, they can then earn their money by disposing of the “deliveries” in their own personal facilities.
Or maybe this is another way to fill the black hole in the way of court fines for urinating in public

some one told me it was those uk exports, TRIBAL, the same nutters that put the bus fares up and had a cut of the profits, i could think of a few cost cutting ways, like [silly servants] from each department, made redundent, get rid of half of those deputies,
