GUERNSEY’S airport could open on Christmas Day as islanders face travel misery over the holiday period.
Hundreds of passengers will pass through the airport this week, many returning home for Christmas.
Deputy director Simon Macphail said his staff were ready to open.
‘If the airlines request it, we can open on Christmas Day,’ he said.
‘The airport will be manned in case of emergency flights anyway, and airlines may wish to move passengers if they are stranded.’

You know what I love?
All these “thank you” comments we have here. The Airport staff, when they are under no obligation to, put themselves out for the good of the Guernsey people, and get NO thanks.
Something goes a bit awry like snow closing the runway and there are dozens of disgruntled eejits complaining about the airport, its staff, the States, the sqashed hedgehog – in fact anything they can possible think of to whinge about.
Nice balance, Guernsey, nice balance…. chips evenly distributed accross shoulders.

Steady on Billy – people can’t really give their thanks and gratitude for something that hasn’t happened yet.
Granted the gesture is a fantastic one from the staff at the airport (although I’m sure they will be rewarded via overtime payments)but don’t be too quick to dismiss people as being ungrateful. Give ‘em a chance….it’s Christmas! ;)
