‘I was lied to over closure of toilets’
Saturday 18th December 2010, 2:30PM GMT.
TREASURY and Resources reneged on a promise not to shut the Castle Emplacement toilets, it was claimed yesterday.
Graham Garland, the proprietor of the kiosk for more than 40 years, said he learned of the closure from customers after Treasury staff told him the toilets were staying open.
He believes that scrapping the facility opposite his Fishy Tale Cafe stems from a dispute between States departments.
Mr Garland (pictured) said Treasury’s head of estate management and two staff visited him in early October. He said the official told him that they would soon be announcing the closure of some public toilets, but those at the Castle Emplacement and at Portelet, where Mr Garland also runs the kiosk, would stay open.

We are appalled that the States have to stoop so low as to save money, as we now hear that to save even more money, they are closing much needed toilet facilities around the island, why are we always the ones to suffer, they (The States) have over spent, lets face it,and not just this government but others before them,so they aren’t entirly to blame, everyone needs to use these facilities, period.
We all pay our taxes,to pay for these toilets,to stay open for our,”excuse the pun” (for our convenience).
Find another way to cut costs, and look closer to home like your own salaries for instance!!
There will be uproar, if T & R do not turn this around.
