HSSD team aims to cut off-island placements

HEALTH and Social Services is trying to reduce the number of young islanders who go to the UK for treatment for mental health issues.
As part of a Children and Young People’s Plan, which the States approved in November, the department has formed a new outreach service.
This will be funded by money that was approved in the 2009 States Strategic Plan.
Last year, there were 12 cases where young people needed treatment off-island for acute mental health conditions.
Director of services for children and young people Jacqui Gallienne (pictured) said the outreach programme would be a vital resource.
