More flight chaos as cold snap persists

Colin Le RayHUNDREDS of islanders had their travel plans disrupted as heavy snow caused havoc over the weekend.

Airport director Colin Le Ray (pictured) estimated that in the region of 800 people had been unable to fly to or from Guernsey and a similar number had suffered delays of various lengths.

Guernsey Airport opened for business as usual this morning. but Mr Le Ray said disruption caused by more snow in the UK was likely later today.

‘We are watching a band of heavy snow that is rumbling across from the west,’ he said. ‘It’s expected to cross the south of England and go north and while I don’t think it will reach us, it looks as though Southampton then Gatwick will catch it.’

    Julian Winser will still be angry at the Airport staff for not flying over to Gatwick to help them clear the snow off their runway.
