PSD businesses ‘should be free to negotiate with staff’

BUSINESSES such as the harbours and airport should be free to negotiate with their staff and their inability to do so jeopardises the quality of the services they provide, the Office of Utility Regulation has said.
The regulator was asked to review all businesses for which Public Services is responsible as part of that department’s evaluation as to whether any would benefit from commercialisation.
It found that most of the six business units – harbours, airport, Guernsey Water, States Works, waste water services and solid waste – were frustrated by the current human resources set-up.
Currently, the Public Sector Remuneration Committee is responsible for negotiating pay deals and terms and conditions for all States employees.

Let’s not forget that commercialisation is all about profit and not about service.
If there are frustrations with current human resourcea then look to address that problem within the existing framework, not punt it out to a different company with an aim only to do the least for the most money…
