WORKING off the Christmas turkey could benefit charity this year through the Women’s Refuge Waist Minimisation programme.
From 2 January people are invited to take part in the sponsored weight loss programme, setting a target to lose pounds to gain pounds for the domestic violence charity.
Women’s Refuge chairwoman Deputy Mary Lowe said the event would help to meet the ongoing cost of the facility.
‘The refuge costs £120,000 each year to run and although we are given a grant of £20,000 per annum towards the running costs by the States, the remainder has to come from fund-raising events,’ she said.
