Guernsey ‘has to live’ with the EU

Bailiff Sir Geoffrey RowlandGUERNSEY must respect international practices if it is to maintain its position as a global player, the Bailiff has said.

Sir Geoffrey Rowland (pictured) said the continued development of the European Union in recent years had dramatically changed the international landscape for Guernsey.

And it was now more important than ever for the island to be aware that it operated in an international world, and paid close attention to the EU in particular.

‘We have to be mindful that at the time we decided to put ourselves out there as an international player, we then had to respect international norms,’ he said.
