Reprieve for Castle toilets

Wednesday 22nd December 2010, 9:01AM GMT.

Castle Emplacement ToiletsTREASURY and Resources’ plan to close the Castle Emplacement toilets has been overturned – for now.

It wanted to shut them at the beginning of January to save money, but the announcement sparked outrage from people who use the area.

Chief Minister Lyndon Trott placed the issue on yesterday’s Policy Council agenda.

‘The council decided that it would be sensible to review the decision and is committed to doing so at the end of January, at which point it will be able to consider the views of the departments involved,’ a council spokesman said. ‘In the meantime, the toilets will remain open as normal.’

We need these facilities open…. every body needs to go don’t you think ….nothing like someone peeing against the walls of our beautiful Island.

    Seriously?

Where exactly are you supposed to go if you need the toilet down there? Run to the terminus? Dangle over the edge? Next thing you’ll see an article for someone getting arrested for piddling in the model yacht pond!!

It’s a pity we need the intervention of the Chief Minister before common sense prevails.

Good decision – although I note that it could only be a temporary reprieve.

Maybe the Chief Minister has problems (when or if he spends time there)
Of doing a 200m sprint to the bus station!

The toilet agenda needs to be flushed out. I agree with Paul temporary toilets are never a good thing.

How about planting lots of extra bushes around
the island? Just the places to pop in and out of when desperate!

But unfortunately the story got leaked by the GEP first.

I wonder if this is a smokescreen??
Those are too important to lose….

Big fuss, a seeming about turn and a small announcement that some toilets elsewhere will close forever instead. Much cheering and backslapping about the saving of these while the ones they intended to close forever (instead maybe of just winter) are bulldozed while everyone looks the other way..

    Am I being cynical??

For a moment there I thought the Island might be going to pot. (Well, let’s face it, we were going to have to go somewhere!!) It is concerning though that the States throw thousands of pounds of tax payers’ money ‘down the toilet’ but were seriously considering preventing the tax payers’ themselves from spending a penny!

Sod all to do with this piddling topic but WHERE IS TIM?

Tim promised to keep us advised of his progress after his November? move to the island with his family

Has he been put off by the enormity of some of the life or death crises which tax our politicians?

I agree with John. These toilets should remain open. What Clown even considered closing them down. They are the only ones available, apart from the Yacht Club and,I don’t think they would be to happy if everyone trooped in there just to spend a penny. From “Harbour watchers”just watching the world go by,to Model Boat enthusiasts and, in the summer many visiters.Where are they to go to spend a penny? The States are so desperate to save money, they are taking the easy option.

…why don’t the States either franchise out the toilets on the Island, or rent them out…I can see the sign above each cubile door now “TO LET TOILET”…and it rolls off the tongue quite nicely, which is more than you can say for some of the names trying to close the facilities!

Vigilence is needed. A constant watch must be kept on the involved political bodies. Once they get an idea in their head it sticks like chewing gum on a cat! They will wait a while until things calm down and try again.

Perhaps they could close the toilets at North beach…you know the ones that stink so badly it makes people urge when they walk past. God Forbid having to walk into them. I would rather cack me breeks. Unbelievably revolting.

So the harbour toilets have been reprieved for now, what about the rest of them that need to stay open? Les Ammeurers toilets by the kiddies playground and golfers, Vazon for the surfers, Plienmont for the walkers, Jerbourg for the scenery viewers, Pembroke for the golfers and people parking for the view and windsurfers, Southside and Northside, St. Sampsons for the shoppers and Northbeach Car park for commuters and shoppers?

How about these States members boarding up their office toilets and take a 10 minutes walk or so to a public loo every time they need to answer nature? Then make up for lost work time.

OK, so the States can’t win. They get accused of wasting money but when changes are proposed that would bring savings or reduce expenditure (e.g. closure of toilets, increase in bus fares etc) nobody wants them.

Questor, the States can never win, they’re not fighting with anybody. Well at least they shouldn’t be.

If they got few of a few foreign consultants, and others sitting in Frossard House who get paid too much then money could easily be saved, but they wouldn’t want to do that.
