PLANNERS have granted permission to move the Vale war memorial to the douzaine room – but the ultimate decision will be decided by a parish vote.

Douzenier Bill Cohu said the first big hurdle to seeing the memorial moved from the junction of Vale Avenue, Braye Road, Croft Lane, Route des Coutures and Summerfield Road had been cleared.

‘We were instructed to investigate the moving of the memorial to see if it could be done,’ he said.

‘Now we know that it can, it will be up to parish residents to say if that’s what they want to happen.’

Why do they want to move it?
Who’s the generous person paying for it to be moved?
What do they intend to put in its Place?

Mally T – before jumping to conclusions, think about it for a moment:

The Douzaine is the administrative centre of the parish – hardly out of sight out of mind.

Its present location is a noisy, busy junction with limited parking. In contrast, the Douzaine is far more accessible for those wishing to pay their respects, not to mention making ceremonial events far easier to organise and attend. It’s also a lot quieter, allowing people the opportunity to reflect in peace.

Rather than being disrespectful to the past, I think it’s totally the opposite.
