MORE than 1,000 people watched swimmers taking an icy dip in the Boxing Day swim at Cobo yesterday.
The road was closed to allow spectators to line up along the sea wall and watch.
Organisers said about 365 people took to the water to raise money for the Guernsey Cheshire Home.
‘Certainly in terms of spectators it was phenomenal. They stretched as far as the eye could see,’ said Dave Chester from the organising team.
The weather was clear and sunny but cold, with temperatures not getting above 4C. Mr Chester said they measured the sea temperature at 10C, which was warmer than he had expected.

In reply to Maurizo, yes I most certainly went in and have done so for the past 11 years. Thanks must go out to all those other 364 brave souls who also took the DIP. Todate over £3500-00 has been paid in to the Guernsey Cheshire Home. Amounts still to come should be taken or sent to the Home in the Rohais. Again thanks to everybody for making this community event such a wonderful occasion.
