Martyn Ogier’s return to the speed sailing circuit has been hugely impressive. (1069763)

MARTYN OGIER ends the year ranked No. 2 in the world speed sailing rankings, ending a remarkably successful comeback to the sport.

From 1990 to 1998, Ogier competed on the world speed sailing tour and his highest ranking was fourth in 1994.

A combination of marriage, children and building up a business changed his priorities and he retired from the sport until returning last year.

‘I always believed however that I had not fully achieved what I wanted to with speed sailing and 11 years on with a bit of a mid-life crisis creeping in I suggested to my wife that I would like to compete again. To my surprise, she thought that I should give it a go.’
