Young UK rising star could not keep with Lee

MOST of Lee Merrien’s memorable moments of the year came off island.
There will be more about those later in the week, but the island’s best distance runner also forced his way into our domestic achievements category thanks to a magnificent performance on his home track back in September.
In good conditions at Foote’s Lane, the distance star beat off strong opposition in Aldershot and Farnham’s Jonny Hay to lower the 3,000m all-comers’ best by more than eight seconds to 8min. 6.2sec.
It improved, by more than 11sec., his previous best for the distance on local soil.
