Desperques makes history with a ton in island final

HE MAY have just lost the record for the highest competitive break locally, but Martyn Desperques laid claim to a piece of history this year which no one can take away from him.

It had long been his ambition to make a century break in the Island Championship final and, at North Legion back in March, Desperques (pictured) became the first man to do exactly that.

‘It’s always anyone’s aim – even just to think about the chance of making a ton in this match,’ he said.

Not that he remembered much about his third-frame effort of 101.
