Privatisation still an option for PSD ‘firms’
Wednesday 29th December 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
PRIVATISING the business units operated by Public Services is still an option, but the States will have to instruct the department to investigate it fully.
PSD said it was looking for guidance from the Assembly during next month’s debate to see if there is the political will to consider the privatisation of business units such as the airport, harbours or Guernsey Water.
The department has published a report updating its work on the potential to commercialise the businesses. The option of privatisation was not discussed in the report, neither was it referred to in the Office of Utility Regulation report on the business units.
‘The commercialisation or privatisation of Public Services’ business units is an ongoing programme. The States has previously decided to commercialise Guernsey Post and Guernsey Electricity and privatise Guernsey Telecoms,’ PSD minister Bernard Flouquet (pictured) said.
