Centenarians set to more than double
Friday 31st December 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
THE number of islanders aged 100 or more is set to more than double over the next 30 years.
According to UK official figures, one in six people alive in Britain today is expected to live to be 100.
And Health and Social Services spokesman said: ‘Demographic statistics do project a 166% increase in the number of people aged 100-plus in Guernsey over the next 30 years,’ he said.
This is a large increase but centenarians represent only 0.29% of over-65s.
