WITH football seen purely as a results business, Guernsey’s defeat at St Peter’s on Saturday morning will be added to the catalogue of recent under-18 failings.

But the general view from around the ground was that Gloucestershire, for all their pedigree, were there for the taking.

True, they were the runners-up in last season’s under-18 SWCC championship, but they were ordinary in this one, let off the hook by their ability and Guernsey’s inability to take chances.

In a cracking semi-final, the Sarnians never took the lead but twice held their opponents at 1-1 and 2-2.
